Inaccurate times single assets

NOTE: this does not relate to Devices that are not updating. This relates to Devices that are updating, but have incorrect timed updates.


If one or a few Assets show incorrect time on the flag in the Asset Overview Screen, this is usually related to a time zone setting on the Device. All Devices must be set to GMT for the platform to reflect the time, based on the time zone chosen. 


The data received by the platform is not handled in any way, therefore what is noted on the flag is what has been received from the Device. The Last Update time is the time between when the Device created the data and the clock on the computer of the User (usually the same as the time zone chosen for the User). Therefore, always monitor Device time in relation to the time on the computer.


Devices Not Updating (Reporting GMT -)


This is quite difficult to pick up, as Assets reporting GMT - may not appear to be updating. They will continually update, however remain as many hours behind the zone of the user as per the setting within the Device. 


Devices Updating in the Future (Reporting GMT +)


Constant Updates: Devices reporting in the future usually do so because the time zone on the Device is set accordingly. Usually the Device will stabilise at a time an hour/two/three ahead of that expected. If this is the case, the updates will move with the time, and remain as many hours ahead. 


One Update: If the Device sends one random future update, this usually indicates an issue with the Device, not the time zone chosen. The platform will store that time until such time as the next update AFTER the time in the future - i.e. if it is 9am, and the platform gets an update of 10am, the flag for the Asset will retain the time of 10am until the first update after 10am (e.g. 10:01). The data between 9 and 10am that is in sequence will be captured, and trips will reflect as normal. The incorrect time will slot in at the time in question, and only affect that trip at the time. Please contact the Device manufacturer if this is noticed.


The relevant data from all the incorrectly updating Devices is available in the Telemetry, and can be seen and downloaded accordingly.
